During the first dental visit, Dr. Gindi will examine your child’s mouth, teeth and gums for any signs of tooth decay or other pathology. Digital X-rays may be taken to see whether the facial bones and teeth are developing properly and to diagnose decay between the teeth, which may not be visible clinically. The teeth may be cleaned if necessary. Dr. Gindi will teach you how to effectively clean your child’s teeth at home and evaluate any adverse habits such as thumbsucking. Your child’s fluoride needs will also be evaluated. After evaluation of your water system, Fluoride drops or tablets may be prescribed.

Talk about the first visit with your child in a positive, matter-of-fact way. Tell your child that the dentist is a friendly doctor who will help him or her stay healthy. Try to make the dental visits enjoyable for your child.  Explain how much fun it will be to play the video games and watch movies while their teeth are being brushed.  Try to focus on the positives. Set a good example for your child by caring for your own teeth.  If you feel anxious about dental visits, do not let the child know that you feel any anxiety.  Do not let anyone tell your child scary stories about dental visits.
